Do you or someone you know need to register to vote or update your registration information?

If you need to register to vote, you can complete and submit a Voter Registration Form no later than 5:00 PM, February 9th.  We strongly recommend returning your completed form to the Pamlico County Board of Elections.; Courthouse, 202 Main St. Bayboro or mail to PO Box 464, Bayboro, NC 28515.  Take advantage of One-Stop(Early Voting) February 15th - March 2nd; Registration can still occur during One Stop by showing proof of residence, such as a utility bill, government document or valid NC Driver’s License.  You will need to show a valid Photo ID or complete an ID Exception Form when you begin the process of voting. 

If you need to update your registration you can update your name and address when you check-in to vote. Update your name, address and party affiliation by completing a new voter registration form and submitting it to the Pamlico County Board of Elections.

What are the North Carolina Voter ID Requirements?

Starting with the 2023 Municipal Elections, all voters will be asked to show photo ID when voting in North Carolina. Voters may respond to the request in several ways as listed below. 

Present any one of the following that is unexpired or has not been expired for more than one year: 

  • NC Drivers License
  • State ID Card issued by the NC DMV, ● US Passport Book or Card
  • NC Voter ID Card issued by your county BOE
  • College/University student ID’s approved by the State Board of Elections (see SBOE.gov for details)
  • Drivers license/non-driver ID from another state - (only if the voter has registered in NC within 90 days of the election)
  • Either of the following approved by theState Board of Elections. (See the fulllist at: https://www.ncsbe.gov/voting/voter-id#acceptable) State & Local Government ID
    • State & Local Government ID
    • Charter School Employee ID
  • Voters may also present any of the following regardless if they contain an issuance or expiration date:
    • U.S. Military Veteran ID Card
    • Tribal card issued by State or Federally recognized tribes.
    • Public assistance ID card issued by the U.S. Government or State of North Carolina.

NOTE: Voters age 65+ may use and expired ID if it was unexpired on their 65th birthday.

A registered voter, who does not have an acceptable ID for voting, can get a FREE ID Card from the Pamlico County Board of Elections. No special documents are required; just your name, date of birth and last 4 digits of your Social Security number. 

Remember, if you are at the polls and do not have an acceptable ID, you can still cast your ballot. Per the State Board of Elections: All voters will be able to vote with or without an ID. If a voter casting a ballot at the voting site cannot provide an acceptable ID,
  1. The voter may fill out a Photo ID Exception Form and vote a provisional ballot, or 
  2. Vote a provisional ballot and bring an acceptable ID to the county board of elections office by the day before the county canvass (which is typically 10 days after elections in even-numbered years and seven days after elections in odd-numbered years).
